Analytical Chemistry
Study programme annotation: The study program instigates principles of scientific work, scientific formularization of problem and coupling between research - development - application - interpretation, ethical and social issues of scientific work, presentation and publication of results in the field of analytical chemistry science. The graduate knows the methodology of scientific work particularly directed to problem oriented fields (trace and ultra trace analysis in complex samples, speciation analysis, analysis of chiral compounds, etc.), to application fields (analysis of materials, environmental analysis, pharmaceutical analysis, etc.) and to methodology fields (separation methods, identification and detection methods, spectral methods, electroanalytical methods, bioanalytical methods, etc.).
The graduate is able to work with complex experimental equipments and computer systems, has practical knowledge on data treatment, in preparation and presentation of publications on research results. The graduate has experience at formulation of partial tasks of the research, team leading and pedagogical work.
Careers of graduates: The graduate is prepared for independent creative scientific and research work. He can find the work in research and development of analytical methods for technical materials, environmental control, food quality control, for analysis of samples of biological origin. Complex character of the graduate profile represents a basis for his future non-problematic activity in all fields of production, technology and process control.

Study programme annotation: Graduates of this program acquire theoretical background and practical skills in biochemistry and molecular biology and adjacent fields, such as microbiology, physiology, cell biology, clinical biochemistry and bioinformatics, which enable them to be employed in biologically oriented research, development, and in related companies. Graduates learn scientific methodology in these fields, such as problem formulation, design of experiments, analysis of experimental data and written output of results. Corresponding skills encompass the isolation and analytical procedures with cells, organelles, biomacromolecules, metabolites, transport and enzyme activity measurements, analysis of reactions and transport and metabolism by means of mathematical methods.

Study programme annotation: The Ph.D. study program provides the graduate deep special knowledge in selected fields of biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, gene engineering, biosyntheses and transformation of microorganisms, biocatalysis, enzymology and enzyme engineering, bioengineering, bioanalytical methods, as well as fermentation, environmental and pharmaceutical biotechnology. The program is oriented on individual scientific research and development in the wide area of biotechnology.
Graduate masters the methods of scientific research and development aimed at streamlining technologies and development of new manufacturing processes for wide area of biotechnology, like fermentative production of organic acids, lipids, pigments, alcoholic beverages, bio-ethanol, bioconversion and transformation of metabolites, production of metabolites for pharmaceutical, medical or food purposes, as well as genetic manipulations. Graduate is specialist and is prepared for individual solution of research and production tasks, knows the methodology of research, and is able to evaluate and analyze the results and to present them to scientific community in the form of scientific papers, publications and lectures.

Study programme annotation: The graduates are well acquainted with the scientific methods of research, development and intensification of technologies oriented on environmental protection. The main attention is given to wastewater treatment, water treatment, waste treatment and recovery, air protection, soil protection and remedition. They are specialists and are prepared for individual solution of research and production tasks. They know the methodology of research, they are able to evaluate and analyze the results and to present them to scientific community in the form of scientific papers, publications and lectures.
Graduates acquire special knowledge of chemical and biochemical processes in water and atmosphere, water protection, waste engineering, risk properties of chemical compounds, monitoring and analyses of pollutants. The main attention is given to progressive processes and technologies of wastewater and water treatment, waste treatment and recovery, air protection, soil protection and remediation. The graduates know the details of processes and technologies proposal, modelling and operation. In addition, they are able to present the results for professionals on national and international level.

Study programme annotation: Study program provides post-doctoral deep specialized knowledge of selected areas of chemistry, physics and food analysis, unit processes in the food industry, food microbiology, cosmetology, hygiene and health, food and biochemical technology. The program is oriented on individual scientific research and development in the broad area of foodstuffs, cosmetics and biotechnology.
Graduated masters the scientific methods of research and development with a focus on production intensification and development of new technologies for a wide field of food and cosmetic technologies. Graduated controls specific food and cosmetics production and the correct application of the principles of safety, hygiene and preventive elements of food and cosmetic products, in order to protect health. He is knowledgeable in the area of surface-active agents, respectively in household chemicals. He is familiar with the methods and techniques of physico-chemical, biochemical and microbiological analysis provided food, hygiene and cosmetic commodities. Graduate is specialist and is prepared for individual solution of research and production tasks, knows the methodology of research, and is able to evaluate and analyze the results and to present them to scientific community in the form of scientific papers, publications and lectures.

Technology of Polymer Materials – Conservation of Heritage Materials and Objects
Study programme annotation: PhD study program is aimed at the solution of scientific problems in the field of protection and preservation of objects and materials of heritage at the horizon far exceeding their natural life. Study program Conservation of Heritage Materials and Objects allows obtaining interdisciplinary knowledge, which serve to scientific analysis, authentication, understanding of value, pricing, distribution, preserving and making available heritage. It combines a deep knowledge of natural sciences and technical view on the problems of protection of heritage objects and coordinates them with social and ethical approaches.
The graduate of the program Conservation of Heritage Materials and Objects has thorough knowledge of scientific (natural science) and material bases in the field of protection of materials, objects, artefacts and cultural heritage. He/she knows the processes of aging, degradation and protection of materials, state of the arts as well as traditional technologies of protection and stabilization, historical and current materials in objects of cultural heritage. He/she can perform and interpret analysis aimed to determine the authenticity of artifacts, their state of damage, research and conservation of materials and objects of cultural heritage. He/she is able use scientific methods in research of materials and objects of cultural heritage, conduct own scientific research and produce new knowledge and solutions in this field.
Careers of graduates: Study program Conservation of Heritage Materials and Objects prepares graduates for creative scientific work and research. The graduate is able independently conduct scientific research and development and solve problems in the field of conservation and preservation of heritage materials and objects. Chemical Engineering
Study programme annotation: The graduates of PhD study program are prepared not only with complex knowledge in chemical engineering for the requirements of the production control, applied and basic research, design, projection and optimization of chemical, biochemical and food processing industries and environmental technologies, but also with the skills in scientific research and development methods used in the monitoring of momentum, energy and mass transport, chemical kinetics and equilibrium in multiphase systems. Deep understanding of microscopic and macroscopic characteristics of multiphase systems is the fundament for the design, simulation, optimization, production safety improvement and environmental protection, processes in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biochemical technology as well as energy production, etc., As the only in Slovakia, the PhD. study program is compatible with similar ones in the world educating students to be able to apply modern research methods also in micro- and nanosystems (microstructured systems and medical engineering), and to provide independent and original solutions in the multidiscipline field of “Chemical Engineering“.
Chemical Engineer Philosophiae doctor – PhD – knows modern theoretical and experimental research and development methods used in the scientific discipline “Chemical Engineering” and applies the knowledge in balancing momentum, energy and mass transport in reacting complex systems also under conditions of micro- and nanosystems. He/she utilizes the knowledge gained in effective design and simulation, optimization, safety improvement and environmental protection in existing equipments in chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing and energy production. He/she is qualified for independent scientific and research work, leading research teams and for managerial positions in chemical, food processing and pharmaceutical research. He/she is prepared to effectively coordinate research activities of a research group, present the results in scientific literature, communicate within the international scientific community and implement the obtained research results in practice.
Careers of graduates: A graduate of the study program can be employed in the academic environment, as well as in governmental or company research institutes but also in industry, being prepared for managerial positions in production enterprises, implementation of modern elements and technologies, and existing production processes rationalization.
The acquired knowledge and experience in identification, analysis and solutions of real technical problems, applying mathematical and experimental modelling of processes and equipments in fundamental and applied research represent a professional basis for efficient decision making in implementation of progressive methods in technologies and effective utilization of materials and energies in technical practice.

Study programme annotation: The field of study is aimed at the solution of scientific problems in inorganic chemistry it is oriented on the interconnection research-development-production-utilization-recycling of new inorganic, bioinorganic, coordination and organo-metallic compounds. The graduate has deep (complex) theoretical knowledge, experimental experience, knowledge of managing a working group, and is able to work creatively in scientific teams.
The graduates of Inorganic chemistry PhD study are ready for creative scientific research work in inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry, inorganic biochemistry and material chemistry fields of the basic scientific as well as technological practice. Graduates are capable to synthesize new inorganic, coordination or organometallic compounds, to analyze these compounds by modern analytical methods as spectral, magnetic, or X-ray diffraction methods.
Careers of graduates: The graduate has sufficient theoretical foundation for the scientific problems solving, he is able to use methodology of scientific research, to present his own scientific problem solutions and he is able to use modern methods of solving the scientific problems. Inorganic Technology and Materials
Study programme annotation: The Ph.D. graduate is able to plan the research work and make individually decision on solving complex technological problems in the field of inorganic technology including waste management. They are highly educated in laboratory techniques of inorganic material synthesis and characterization especially in the field of glass chemistry, inorganic binders, ceramic and heat resistant materials, nanomaterials, and technical electrochemistry. The Ph.D. graduate is a highly qualified specialist with deep theoretical background in thermodynamics and kinetics, including kinetics of electrochemical reactions, and is able to individually solve demanding practical engineering problems. The PhD graduate manages both theoretical and practical aspects of materials research with the application of advanced experimental characterization methods and modern technologies. Graduate is fluent in foreign language and highly competent to work with computers, software, and the other equipment required doing her/his job. Ph.D. graduate is able to work with other people to achieve a common goal, make prediction.
The objective of the programme is to educate highly qualified graduates with extensive knowledge in applied material thermodynamics, kinetics of chemical processes including both electrochemical and high temperature processes. He has a strong theoretical background in inorganic technologies, applied thermodynamics and kinetics, including kinetics of electrochemical and high temperature reactions, and both development and preparation novel materials, development of new processing technologies or innovation of traditional materials. The graduates understand the principles of scientific management and they have a deep mathematical background in statistical data processing in area of interest and manage both research and technological projects.
Careers of graduates: The aim of the programme is to educate graduates to be able to individually work and/or solve the scientific and research problems. It is focused on the novel materials and low waste technologies. The main parts of this project are electrochemical technologies and industrial technology of ceramics (heat protecting, technical, and special), construction and building materials for civil engineering, metallurgy, and mechanical engineering (heat protecting, technical, and special ceramics, corrosion, and functional gradient materials and layers on various surfaces) and nanomaterials. Ph.D. graduate can find a job in research and development laboratories, in the various branches of industry, where inorganic materials are used such as electronics, computers, telecommunications, machinery, aerospace industry, nuclear technology, in the field of environmental protection, and as technological (material) laboratory QA/QC managers/supervisors.

Physical Chemistry – Macromolecular Chemistry
Study programme annotation: The main focus of the doctoral program lies in the scientific research methods in the area of synthesis and study of relation between structure and properties of macromolecular compounds based on natural or synthetic polymers. Graduates focus on new methods of polymer synthesis and biosynthesis, modification of polymer properties, with the aim to prepare special polymers and to study the properties of macromolecular compounds in bulk, polymers solutions and multicomponent polymer systems.
Graduate of PhD study in Macromolecular Chemistry has wide knowledge of scientific methods of synthesis and biosynthesis of macromolecular structures as well as the methods of study of structure and properties of macromolecular systems, catalysis and controlled synthesis, building reactions, thermodynamic and kinetics aspects of synthesis and manufacturing of both traditional and novel polymers. He/she has wide knowledge of supermolecular structure of macromolecular compounds and influence of this structure on properties of polymer systems. Graduate masters scientific methodology, scientific processes of preparation and study of structure and properties of macromolecular compounds, polymers solutions and multicomponent polymer systems. He/she is able to present the results of their work in domestic and foreign periodicals, international conferences and other scientific events.
Careers of graduates: The program will prepare the graduate for independent and creative work in the area of scientific research. The graduate is able to work on their research goals and deal with the problems of macromolecular chemistry independently. They are able to transfer their knowledge from other areas and pass it to lower educational levels. They are capable of scientific research on school and academic workplaces, at research institutes and in technological practice in the development of new polymer materials.

Organic Chemistry
Study programme annotation: Doctoral programme prepares highly skilled organic chemists, who have the necessary knowledge of general chemistry, bioorganic and material chemistry. Study programme offers theoretical knowledge of the current organic chemistry, mainly organic synthesis involving the control of chemoselectivity, diastereoselectivity, enatioselectivity and targeted development of new synthetic methods. Develop the ability to plan and carry out multi-step synthesis of active substances for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
The graduate has thorough knowledge of the current organic chemistry and related disciplines, has insight and knowledge of current trends in the art, can independently plan and organize chemical research and lead diverse research team. Graduate student is experienced in research methodology, individually carries out scientific research and provides custom solutions to problems in various fields of organic chemistry. He is able to solve problems of reaction mechanisms and structure elucidation of complex compounds including optically pure natural ingredients using the latest physico-chemical methods. Knowledge forms the core of a graduate advanced methods of synthesis of organic compounds, methods for determining the structure of organic compounds, the correlation structure of the physical, chemical and biological properties of organic compounds.
Careers of graduates: Graduates of the program may increase qualifications in the form of post-doctoral study in domestic and foreign scientific institutions and industrial research. They are prepared for independent solutions of difficult tasks in the area of development and manufacturing of organic compounds and fuels. Physical Chemistry
Study programme annotation: The PhD study program in physical chemistry covers a wide range of areas including chemical thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, atomic and molecular spectroscopy, phase equilibrium, phase states, statistical thermodynamics and non-equilibrium thermodynamics. The program is highly interdisciplinary which brings about a partial overlap with the program of chemical physics.
The graduates of the Physical chemistry program possess practical skills with operating the complicated experimental equipments, planning and designing of experiments, treatment of experimental data, preparation and presentation of research reports. They have knowledge on natural sciences, informatics, research methods in chemistry. They are prepared for research work and for unattended solution of challenging problems in physical chemistry.

Study programme annotation: The field of study is aimed at the solution of scientific problems in the control and management of unit processes, chemical and food technology and in control of complex technological units in the process industries. The graduate is a specialist in the field of mass and heat transfer processes, chemical reactions, and control of biotechnological processes. The graduate can design control, automation, and information systems on the basis of analysis of processes and technologies in the process industries. He can assess links between technological processes and control systems. He knows how to design technology solutions in the process industry. He is able to work effectively in science and research. He is prepared for individual and unique challenges in the field of automation and control in the process industries.
Graduate masters advanced control methods, automatic control theory, intelligent control methods, optimization, design principles and methods of automated and automatic systems, and information security. The graduate understands technical language, can interpret scientific documents, communicates at least in one major world language. They lead a team, argue, and present their results.
Careers of graduates: Graduates can continue at postdoctoral level at universities, research institutions, or R&D departments of companies not only in chemical, biochemical, or food industries. Graduates are prepared for independent creative scientific research activities. They are able to design, deploy, operate, maintain hardware and software of the automated control systems and their components, to make development and scientific research in this area.

Technology of Polymer Materials
Study programme annotation: Technology of polymer materials Philosophie doctor - PhD. knows scientific methods of research and development of new macromolecular materials on the basis of synthetic or natural polymers focused on development of novel polymer materials with new structure and new properties. He also knows special methods of their characterization and new specific technologies for their preparation.
Graduate has wide knowledge of scientific methodology, scientific processes of preparation and study of structure, properties and processing technologies of polymer materials, polymer blends, multicomponent polymer systems and composite materials based on polymers with focus on polymers with unique physical and chemical properties.
Careers of graduates: Graduate is prepared for creative scientific and research and development work in technology of polymer materials. Graduate is able to adopt knowledge and information from other scientific fields. He/she can conduct scientific and research and development work on universities and research laboratories and technological research institutions in development of new materials and processing technologies.

Study programme annotation: The programme is oriented to scientific methods of research and development in chemistry and physics, namely theoretical chemistry methods and scientific programming. The interdisciplinarity of the programme enables theoretical analysis and computational prediction of spectroscopic, electric, magnetic etc. properties of molecules and their reactivity, participation in chemical research, solving the problems of condensed and solid materials, in chemistry, biochemistry and/or molecular biology.
Theoretical chemistry methods and scientific programming, theoretical formulations of TCC methods, theoretical analysis and computational prediction of spectroscopic, electric, magnetic etc. properties of molecules and their reactivity, solving the problems of condensed and solid materials, computer simulations in various branches of chemistry, physics and biology.
Careers of graduates: The graduate is skilled in scientific methods of research and development in chemistry and physics. He has deep knowledge of theoretical chemistry methods and skills in scientific programming. He is able to develop new theoretical methods of TCC, effective computer codes, computer simulations and their applications in various branches of chemistry, physics and biology.
