Every student is required to complete a course in Technical English during their bachelor's studies.
The content of this course focuses on developing general language skills with a general emphasis on English as a communication tool in science and technology.
Additionally, the course provides instruction for learning how to acquire information, present one's own research, and processes of production etc.
At the end of Technical English I and II, students will prepare a presentation in which they present their topic and defend their presentation from criticisms from the examination board.
Foreign students at the faculty will have the opportunity to study Slovak as a foreign language.
Students can acquire professional, lexical, and communicative competencies at our department, where innovative methodological approaches are applied in the teaching of foreign languages.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a language competition called "Linguistically Proficient Chemist" which involves giving a presentation on a professional topic in a foreign language.
The competition is held in two parts: Firstly, in English, and then in Slovak. The Department of Languages invites linguistically gifted individuals from other departments of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology at STU to form our jury. The jury usually includes teachers from language departments at other faculties.
In addition to the aforementioned forms of study, the Department of Languages offers a seminar in English for students in engineering studies, with the goal of improving students' academic writing and their professional conversational skills.
Additionally, staff and students have the opportunity to expand and improve their language competencies through our "Fun Language Courses."
Currently, we offer courses in English, German, French, Spanish, and Slovak as a foreign language.
