Paper from Marchalín’s group published in Organic Letters
We praise the international, interdisciplinary cooperation of research groups, that of professor Marchalin from the Department of Organic Chemistry (Slovak University of Technology Bratislava) that of professor Daïch (Université du Havre, France) and structural analysis expert group from the Slovak University of Technology, which formed an excellent basis for the paper published in the most prestigious journal specialized in organic chemistry - Organic Letters (IF=6,6)
The research, carried out by Peter Šafář from the DOC in close cooperation with structural analyst and Ján Moncoľ from the Department of Analytical Chemistry (staff of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, SUT, Bratislava) in the laboratory of professor Štefan Marchalín it titled “Structure and Mechanism Revision of a Catalyzed Cyclization of Benzaldehyde Bearing Alkyne-Nitrile” was published in the September issue of Organic Letters (ACS, Org. Lett., 2017, 19 (18), pp 4742–4745, DOI: 10.1021/acs.orglett.7b01881). The paper describes a novel, effective preparation of isochromenes and spirobicyclic lactones, utilizing Pt(II)-catalyzed carbocyclization of substituted benzaldehyde, containing a keto and a cyano group in its side chain. Apart from its synthetic merits the contribution provides critical analysis of previous theoretical and experimental results, offers alternative conclusions and structural analyses.
