About the speaker:
Dr. Kathryn Thornton is an American physicist and former NASA astronaut. She is best known for her role in the STS-49 mission, which was the first mission of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. During the mission, Dr. Thornton and her crewmates performed three spacewalks, including one that involved the capture and retrieval of a stranded satellite. Dr. Thornton has also flown on three other Space Shuttle missions, STS-83, STS-88, and STS-96.
About the lecture:
In her lecture, Dr. Thornton will share her experiences from the STS-49 mission, including the challenges and rewards of spacewalking. She will also discuss the importance of teamwork and communication in a high-stakes environment.
